The doctor was unable to see through the ear canal to check the inner ear. We already had a MRI scheduled for that Thursday, so she added what she needed them to look at for her. Brynlee will also be fitted for a hearing device in September so she can keep her hearing nerve active. She has also referred us to genetics to see if there is something wrong with her genetics, so we will know later down the line what we are dealing with. I will say I felt pretty discouraged leaving there without answers AGAIN, and being referred to another specialist. I know my baby girl is young and it will just take time.

Thursday, April 30th, we had Bryn's MRI. We had to be at Cook's by 6:00 am to get registered. Kysen had his first sleep over with some friends and LOVED it. We are so thankful that people love my whole family and will watch my child. I was ok with everything until Shaylor said, "What if she doesn't wake up?" That's when my nerves went off the charts. I had felt a calmness about everything, I knew so many people were praying not only for Brynlee, but the whole family. Anyway, we got to the hospital and got all checked in, and we had to wait for the MRI machine to warm up, then it was go time. We used that extra time to just pray over our child. She was all smiles even though she was hungry. I got to go with her and Shaylor stayed behind. They gave her gas to put her to sleep before doing the IV. IT was cotton candy flavored, and she was out in about 45 seconds. They then asked me to leave, and escorted Shaylor and I to the waiting room and told us it would be between an hour and an hour and a half. Luckily, they give you a pager so you don't have to just sit and stare at each other. We went and had breakfast in the hospital cafeteria, then grabbed a starbucks. We went back to the waiting room, and Shaylor of course took a nap, and I did some work on my iPad. Shortly after, they called us back, and it was on of the best feelings to hold my baby girl again! She was a rockstar! The rest of the day she was kind of out of it, and slept a lot. Kysen was at school, so we took advantage of that and slept too.

We were told we would get the results in 2-3 business days, so we were shocked when the phone rang with the results. The lady we talked to said everything was normal. Her nerves are fully developed, she has an ear drum, and her brain is functioning the way an 11 week old baby's brain should function. I just dropped to my knees and cried, and thanked God for the miracle. Our daughter is definitely a fighter and she definitely has God on her side!

We go to the cranifacialist on Wednesday to see about the bone structure in her face and her half ear. Not really sure what is in store for us with him, but I guess we will find out of Wednesday.

Prayer Request:
Please continue to keep Brynlee in your prayers as we still have a long road ahead of us.
Also, Kysen has been acting out more, and I think it is an attention thing. I know Shaylor and I have had a lot of focus on Brynlee, so pray for us to be aware of our time.

Praise:
The MRI report came back so positive

We went to the neurologist yesterday, and he is pretty sure her brain is functioning the way it should be, and most of her problems are external. He did refer us to a craniologist which we will go to in May. The craniologist will work with the ENT to come up with a plan together. The neurologist wants to check her agin in June to make sure she is continuing to develop age appropriately. He did let us know that she will probably have a speech delay because of her hearing, but also because of her asymmetrical mouth, and will more than likely need therapy. We are thrilled to know that her brain is functioning like a 6 week old.

Please continue to prayer for more answers and good news!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-80909180165664572482015-03-18T18:01:00.000-05:002015-03-18T18:01:42.418-05:00Brynlee's Audiology AppointmentYesterday, we took Brynlee to the audiologist. She does have moderate hearing loss in her left ear, and has normal hearing in her right ear. To a mommy, that makes my heart happy that I know she can still hear my voice! The good news, her hearing nerve for her left ear is functioning and hearing noises. The audiologist is pretty sure the sound is not able to travel through the small ear canal that she has. So, we have now been referred to an ENT specialist that will be able to make the decision if she will need to have an ear canal built for her or not. They will also decide about hearing aids for her. More than likely she will have a hearing aid sooner than later so that the nerve will continue working and hearing sounds, and it doesn't get "lazy". Bryn was also diagnosed with Atresia/Microtia.

What is Microtia / What is Atresia?

Microtia is a congenital deformity
affecting the outer ear (pinna) where the ear does not fully develop
during the first trimester of pregnancy. A Microtia ear is often smaller
in size, can have a peanut shaped appearance, only have a small nub or
lobe present, or be completely absent at birth. Microtia is Latin for
the words micro and otia, meaning “little ear.” Microtia can affect one
ear (unilaterally) or both ears (bilaterally). Microtia occurs in every 1
out of 6,000 to 12,000 births. The right ear is more commonly affected.
Microtia is often accompanied by Atresia.

Atresia (also known as aural atresia)
is the absence or closure of the external auditory ear canal. The
malformation of the middle ear bones (incus, stapes, and malleus) may be
affected including the narrowing of the ear canal, known as canal
stenosis. Atresia is Latin for absence of an opening.

The words of encouragement that we get daily are helping us get through every day. With that, I am not a professional writer and by no means plan on becoming a writer. I really am doing this blog to keep everyone up to date as best I can with what is going on with our family.

I am including her stats so we can remember them in the future. 6 pounds 15 ounces, 10th percentile, 21 inches, 60th percentile. Doctor says she is going to have bright blue eyes, dark hair, and we are going to be in trouble!

Now, the update and answers we were hoping for. Yesterday, we took Bryn to her 2 week check-up. Her pediatrician looked over her and told us the news we wanted to hear... "Your child is healthy!" PTL!!!! With that we do have a long road ahead of us. She filled us in about what all the audiologist will do, and basically it will be a really long, more extensive hearing test. She said be prepared because it will take awhile. Our pedi, Dr. Hull, did say her ear canal is very, very narrow. She said she can't even tell if she has an ear drum or not, and that is why she did not pass her hearing test. Once we go to the audiologist, they will more than likely refer us to an ENT who will actually build an ear canal for Brynlee, and she will be able to hear without any problems. The medical world has come so far! If she does not have an ear drum, then we will have to cross that road when we get to it. Dr. Hull is also referring us to a neurologist. She thinks that she born without a muscle in her face, but the only way to really know what is going on is to do an MRI, so that is where the neurologist comes in. They are trying to get us in, in the next couple of weeks, so please pray that they will have an appointment really soon for us. Dr. Hull never said anything about her hip, so I asked. She was a bit surprised to hear that they had told us that she had a click in her hip. She didn't feel it, but wanted to check again, and did a pretty intense hip check. She told us, that Bryn has really strong hips! She did say though that we need to keep watching it and checking it. If she does have a click in her hip, and we catch it before she is 8 weeks old, she will have to wear a harness. If we miss it, she will end up having to have surgery to correct it. Everything else is pretty much put on the back burner for now. Our doctor is wanting to focus on the main issues that we need/can take care of right now. Everything else is something to keep watching to see if she outgrows or is something we need to focus on in a few months.

Once again, we are so appreciative of the love and prayers that our surrounding our family.

Please pray:
*that we get into the neurologist in the next couple of week
*that when we go to the audiologist that they will see an ear drum
*for the doctors that are all tending to our daughter
*that Shaylor and I have patience and know what we need to do as her parents
*for Kysen to continue adjusting to this new life, and that he has an understanding if we are having to tend to Brynlee more because of her medical issues.
" How are you doing?" And of course my answer is usually we are doing good.

Part of this blog is so that I can be raw and write my feelings and emotions. For the most part, we are doing good. Of course, I am so scared about what is ahead for us, and what the future holds. It is scary knowing our daughter is going to have to go through so many procedures. I don't know how she is going to react to anesthesia, or even how much pain she will have to endure, but what I do know is we serve a Mighty God. Through all of my fears, and unknowns, I have felt the presence of my Heavenly Father. Without Him, I wouldn't be OK.

We start the first round of doctor visits on Monday. As much as I am ready to have some answers, I really want to freeze time where I know she is not going through any pain at all.

Please pray that we do get some answers, and for me to not have an anxious heart.

Last, here is a picture of our sweet miracle. We chose for her ear to be exposed and a part of who she is, instead of laying her on the other side and covering it up!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-35121449595315599022015-02-19T15:34:00.002-06:002015-02-19T15:34:05.916-06:00New beginningsWe were blessed with our new daughter, Brynlee Shay, on February 11th at 12:01 am. I had thought she would be here on the 10th, but missed it by a couple of minutes. We were so overjoyed with her arrival because the doctors had told us we would not have another child unless we went through fertility treatments again. Our God proved them wrong, and gave us our little miracle.

Quickly, our world got shaken with news about health issues. Brynlee was born with half an ear and a very narrow ear canal. She failed her hearing tests in the hospital, and has been referred to an audiologist. We go on March 17th for her first appointment. The pediatrician told us she would go through a series of procedures to hopefully correct the problem. They will also do a sonogram on her kidneys because the ears and kidneys develop at the same time in the womb. She was also diagnosed with an abnormal jawline, and will be referred to a craniologist for this issue. We are also going to be referred to a genetic specialist. Bryn was also born with a click in her hip, and we are praying that that will go away with time.

There are so many unknown questions as to what our future holds, and all the procedures that our daughter will have to go through. She has already proven to be such a fighter.

We are beyond blessed by all the prayers and support, and ask for the prayers to continue. I will be updating the blog, as we feel this is the easiest way to get the information out about our sweet girl. After 10 years I hung up my teaching hat, I am going to tutor part time at my school. I am so excited. I never thought I would get to stay home, but thanks to my sweet husband working his tail off we are going to make it work. We have taken a major leap of faith and we know God wil provide,Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-10164069530549837522013-06-19T15:05:00.001-05:002013-06-19T15:05:03.979-05:00We're BackOk, so I know I took a break, a really long break from blogging, but we are back.

This past year was very hectic and super busy. I have taken on the new adventure of not being a working mom! I am going to work about 10 hours a week being a tutor at the school I was teaching at. I am so blessed with this opportunity, I felt like I was missing so much of my child's life and that was not fair to him. When I would come home I had nothing else to give to my own child, because 22 children took everything from me.

I can't wait to update our many memories we will be making!

Here are some stats since we haven't done any in a really long time.
Weight- 22 pounds 13 ounces (15th%)
Height-33 1/2 inches (98th%)
Some things haven't changed, we have a very tall, very skinny boy on our hands.
Vocabulary- mommy, daddy, hi, bye, ball, dog, sit, no, yes, yeah, nana, pops, ace(my sister), night night, puffs, milk, more, truck, football, baseball, basketball, big ball, book, poo poo, hot dog, and the list goes on!
He loves playing with balls and trucks. Whenever he sees either one he has to have it or it is a full blown tantrum. Needless to say our house has been taken over by all kinds of balls.
Speaking of tantrums, Kysen has full blown tantrums. He is very stubborn and very independent. He gets frustrated that he still can't communicate everything he wants with you, and after a long game of charades, Kysen talk, etc we can usually get it figured out. I am worried for the terrible twos, this has already been terrible.
He is learning and exploring so much. He can identify blue, red, and pink correctly, and can say the colors. He can count to 3 and also count objects to 3.he can sort with some help by colors and animals.
He is still a mommy's boy. Everyone says they go through phases, but for the past 15 1/2 months he is still a mommy's boy.
He is still pretty shy when he first goes somewhere or sees someone, but is warming up faster to people.
He loves to give hugs and kisses and it just melts my heart.
We have been working with saying I love you and making an l with our fingers and shaking it when we say it. Tonight when Shaylor left for work tonight, Kysen shook his little hand after giving him a hug and kiss.
It truly is amazing how much a child learns. I think about last summer, he was just a little baby that depended on us for everything and now, he only needs us for very few things.
We love you Kysen! You are an amazing little boy, and I can't wait to continue to watch you grow and develop. You amaze us every day with the different things you do.Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-11694776459545934872012-06-23T06:40:00.001-05:002012-06-23T06:40:34.166-05:00The rest of the trip...Was not as exciting. Kysen got super clingy and whiny, then bam here came the fever. We stayed at the condo and just relaxed which was a totally different scene for us, but very refreshing. We ended up coming home on Friday instead of going to El Paso, shorter drive and needed to see doctor.
We took Kysen to the doctor on Saturday and everything came back clear. Foundout there is something going around that all that is wrong is a high fever, it's crazy. So after 7 days of a fever, it finally broke and our happy little boy is back.
Next post: summer time and 15 month check up.Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-29133745930654493072012-06-12T16:03:00.001-05:002012-06-12T16:04:55.857-05:00Ruidoso Trip Days 1&2Every year we meet my parents in Ruidoso at their time share. It is always so nice and relaxing. We drove in on Sundaynto a horrible fire that has consumed 36,000 acres of God's beautiful forest. During the day we can just see the smoke, but by night time you can see the actual fire burning. It is a sight to see that's for sure. We took it pretty easy once we got in.
Yesterday we headed to the horse races and had a blast. Kysen loves all kinds of animals and trucks, so it was a perfect place for him. Whenever he would see the horses he would neigh at them and then as they were running he would yell go go go, over and over. I think he learned that from me yelling at I'll Have Another to step it up both races. You would never know that my poor child is teething, has a horrible diaper rash that even antibiotic rash cream is not taking care, and his poor little eyes won't stop watering from allergies. He is such a trooper and having a fabulous time with Nana and Pops.
Please continue to pray for these wild fires, it is devastating at what all has been lost and damaged. My heart goes out to all the people who have lost everything!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-10721440651679566442012-06-07T15:37:00.000-05:002012-06-07T15:37:55.390-05:00Horrible BloggerI am the worst blogger ever! I always say I am going to blog more and somehow times gets away from me. I am hoping with it being summertime I can find more time to do it. My child is extremely active so when he is awake we are going 90 mph. Here is a little update on my boy:
He is a true all boy. He loves to climb, throw, build, stack, and he has no fear, which leaves me to be on constant alert.
He has great vocabulary. He can say about 30 words that I can actually understand, but talk sin full sentences and I just act like I know what he is saying.
We go to the doctor in about a week and a half for his 15 month check up so I can give you an update on weight, height, etc then. When he gets on mommy and daddy's scale he is about 23/24 pounds.
I am truly amazed at how much he has grown and how much things have changed in just a short year. I can't believe that last fear at the time I had a totally dependent child, Nowd I have a totally independent child who does not want any help at all. It is fascinating to see the world in his eyes, and it has opened my eyes to the world again.
Just a little update for y'all. Hopefully I can get his first birthday pictures uploaded soon so y'all can see the fun festivities.
I promise I will try to do better at what is going on in our life!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-67265698673650085822012-02-12T16:32:00.002-06:002012-02-12T17:49:11.736-06:005 months really????I know, I know, I have been a horrible blogger the last 5 months. I think about it at times I don't have time to sit down and type. Here are things that are going on with Kysen:
*A walker- He walks everywhere!!!! He took his first steps right before he was 9 months, and I was home to see them. It was wonderful. Ever since then he takes more and more, and within the last few weeks, he would rather walk than crawl.
*5 teeth- He is an AWESOME teether. One of his teeth we had no idea that it was even going to come out. He went to bed and the next morning he had a tooth.
*Talking- here are just a few words that you can say, Mama, Dada, Ball, Dog, Hi, Bye, No, OK, yeah, and you are trying your name, sometimes we get Sen out of you and other times we get Ky Ky. He repeats ever word that I say, or at least make a noise with the same tone that I use.
*Clapping is still one thing he always does. Now, he will play patty cake by himself.
*If he is crying, all I have to do is give him a book or show him a picture of a baby and he stops.
*He waves bye with both hands, and waves hi with one hand.
*He loves to give people high five, and we are working on bones(knuckles). He doesn't quit get to make a fist.
*He had RSV in January and that was an awful experience. He had a fever for a week. It got really high one night and had to take him to the ER. After 2 weeks, he finally started acting like himself.
*We are working on the word gentle when petting dogs or when we are around babies.
*He will just walk over to me and give me a hug and a kiss, he already knows how to melt a woman's heart.
*Some of his favorite toys are trucks he can push around, anything that will open and close, riding in his many cars that he has, and he still loves balls. He always has at least one in his hand no matter what he is doing.
*At his 9 month check up he weighed 20 pounds(30th percentile) and was 30 inches long (95th percentile).
*He is going to be a big cousin in August!

This is just a little bit of what Kysen can do! I can't believe he is a month away from being one. Time is flying. I love him more than I ever thought I could love anything.Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-29908854449014206232011-09-21T20:59:00.006-05:002011-09-21T21:12:26.547-05:006 months

I hate that the 5 month mark got skipped, I do have a picture but no stats. I always thought I would tell Shaylor in a really cool way, but it didn't happen. I was going out with the girls that night and wanted to drink since I hardly ever got to, but took a test to ease my mind, keep in mind I had probably taken 100 test by this point. So not thinking anything of it, I took the test and walked away to get ready. I ended up taking a peek and saw two lines. I ended up taking 3 more test. Shaylor was already at work so I sent him a picture but didn't hear back from him, so I called his work and surprised him by telling him at work!!!! Needless to say, he didn't appreciate that too much. I called our fertility specialist the next morning and went and she took blood and confirmed I was pregnant, but I still took probably 10 more tests just to be sure. I had to have blood drawn every other for about a week just to be sure everything was progressing. At 6 weeks we got to have a sonogram and see our miracle. It is still so surreal that I have a son that I can hold and love and do everything else a mom can do.

We decided this year we would do something to celebrate the day we were given a miracle and we went and toured the cowboys stadium, which is awesome, had lunch with some great friends, and ended the day just getting to love on Kysen. I never know what we will tell Kysen about our journey, or if we even will. I do hope one day he knows that God is good and He does give us the most amazing blessings! July 14th will probably always be a day that Shaylor and I will celebrate, and hold so dear to our hearts.

I know many friends that are struggling with infertility right now, and are getting pretty beat down by it. Whenever you read this, I ask that you lift them up in prayer. Many people who read our blog either have dealt with infertility or have been by our side as we struggled and you know what we through.

Thanks for continuing on this journey with us!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-25870554654125073172011-07-18T20:46:00.003-05:002011-07-18T20:59:54.058-05:004 months

We can't believe Kysen Allin thata you are 4 months old. I went back to work for the last 3 weeks of school then we went on vacation for 10 days. It was hard to go back to work, but my mom and mother-in-law watched Kysen for me which of course eased my mind a little bit. I have never looked more forward though to a summer and getting to spend it with my little man!

After school was out, my family went on a vacation to Ruidoso. It was so much fun and relaxing. My sister and her family came and it was fun to watch Taryn with Kysen. She was such a big help and always wanted to know where "Baby" was. Then we went to El Paso for a couple of days. We got to see some friends and they got to meet Kysen which was awesome.

As for now we are just enjoying summer and I am loving every minute I get to spend with Kysen. I just hope this summer doesn't fly by! I will update everyone with pictures and his stats soon, I promise. :)Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-60017555824270170752011-04-20T23:45:00.000-05:002011-04-20T23:45:00.448-05:00Accomplished???To me, YES!!!!!

Shaylor has a crazy work schedule, and Kysen and I have had to adjust. It was hard having him home for 2 weeks after Kysen was born and then him going back to work. Shaylor usually handled the late night feedings, etc. Well when he went back to work some nights it was just me. I know from previous posts I have told you how he worked over night. We have a little boy that is a night owl. I try to put him to bed at 9 and it doesn't work. On Wednesdays Shaylor works until at least 1 am. Most of the other nights during the week he is home and gives Kysen his last bottle usually around midnight then puts him to bed. Every time I try Kysen just cries and cries and cries. It gets so frustrating, but I guess I don't have the touch that Shaylor has. I must not swaddle him right, or give him the right kisses, or say the right thing, but only at night. During the day we have no problems and he goes right to sleep. Shaylor has come home many times to me crying because I don't know what else to deal and I feel like a failure as a mother since I can't even put my child to sleep. I am trying to do what they say in Baby Wise, but it's hard.

I am sure you keep asking yourself how do you feel accomplished? I have been dreading tonight all day. I didn't want Shaylor to go to work, and leave me tonight. My good friend Nicci came over to keep me company and she and her daughter played with Kysen to give me a little break. Well then they left and I didn't know what was going to happen. So, at 9:30 I gave Kysen his bottle, and then put him in his crib at 10:00. HE DIDN'T CRY!!!!!! He went right to sleep and has been for an hour and a half. To some of you this may not be a big deal, but to me it is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! He may wake up any minute and I would be OK with that, knowing that I can get him to go back to sleep. What a great feeling!Shaylor and Jacklynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01471880868044772174noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1842657981784979082.post-54322988959661958432011-04-18T19:10:00.003-05:002011-04-19T12:33:27.230-05:00Happy 1 Month Kysen AllinOne month...
-I just started drinking 3 1/2 to 4 ounces of formula every 3 hours.
- I am still in newborn diapers.
-I wear newborn shirts and 0-3 month pants.
